This year has been great for us thus far, and we are very excited to see where it takes us from here. We have new designs, projects and goals for 2013. We have had the privilege to build the bar tops, barstools and tables for the crew at Salt & Time a butchershop and Salumeria located on East 7th. Here is a preview of our work, more photos to come soon.

Last month we were featured in the lifestyles section of the Austin American-Statesman. Melanie did a great job covering some of back story and new designs. We are very pleased with how everything turned out. You can check out the entire article here. 

Here is a look at a couple of our new designs. The first is the Tre stool and Plover floor lamp built out of pecan they were featured in the Austin American-Statesman, the second is our Didiare desk also built out of pecan, and the third is our crosspatch desk in walnut. 

We have a few more projects and designs that we will be releasing soon, we are waiting on some finishing touches and high resolution photos. Check back soon for more updates. 

We wanted to share some of the events coming up that we are really excited about. Tell your friends and join us. 

Our good friends and neighbors at Mockingbird Domestics, a local, hand-crafted, vintage and home decor store is hosting a pop-up shop and leather demonstration on November 10th at 2151 S. Lamar from 3-5 p.m.

Swing by the store for some great company, locally made furniture and meet the craftsman/artist behind each piece. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and get some holiday gifts.     

Our friends at Bexar Goods will be doing the leather demonstration, and we will have our furniture in the pop-up shop. It is going to be a great afternoon with some free give aways. You can get more information on the event and rsvp here. 

We will also have some furniture in the East Austin Studio Tour from November 8th-18th. Our good friends over at East Side Glass Studio have opened their doors for us to display some of our work. We are excited to be a part of their showroom and are looking forward to this opportunity. 

We were fortunate enough to be featured in the September issue of Hospitality Design, a magazine that brings designers, architects and other agents in hospitality together for projects and collaborations.

A couple weeks back we had the privilege to take photos with Julie Cope, one of our good friends who is a photographer here in Austin. We couldn’t be happier with how the photos turned out. Visit our facebook page to see the photos and leave some feedback. 

Over the next few weeks we will be doing features on some of our new designs. We will talk about the material, design process and why we built and designed certain pieces. 

Above is the cask series, included is the cask side chair, rocker and arm chair. Each chair is made with bent steel rod and repurposed wine slates. Oiled to hold in the natural colors and tones of the wine stained oak, a visually pleasing contrast with the raw steel frame. The design of these chairs mimics an exploded drawing of a wine barrel, a visual way of explaining the name “cask”. We went through a few different back curves with this set before finally finding one that was a comfortable and appealing. 

This month we had the privilege to be featured in the Outdoorsman Issue of Tribeza. A local Austin magazine finding and sharing the latest on arts, fashion, architecture and design, music, community events and cuisine.

Tribeza put together a issue release party at Bar 96. We were asked to sponsor the party with our good friends at Mockingbird Domestics. The party was a great success and everyone had a great time. Photos of the release can be viewed at Tribeza Outdoor. We can’t thank them enough for including us. It was a pleasure getting to know everyone, and a special thanks to Cultivate PR for all their hard work. 

We are excited to announce we will soon be releasing new designs. We are still putting the finishing touches on some of our designs and getting them photographed over the next few weeks, but we are hoping to have everything finished by mid July. Our good friend Julie Cope will be taking photos of our furniture, in the meantime check out some of the other great work she does.  

We have some great news- we will be moving into a shop off of S. Lamar over the next month. Once we are in and get settled we will be having a launch party with great furniture, friends, local beer and live music. Once we have the details we will let everyone know.

Next week we will be featured in the June issue of Tribeza you can pick these up at Whole Foods, Central Market, Book People and a number of other local book stores and restaurants. We are really excited to see what the great people at Tribeza had to say about Petrified Design.

Last week we were featured in Culture Map Austin an online blog bringing the latest in news, music, food, art, design and much much more. Jessie did a great job writing the article, and we are looking forward to seeing her next story. 

Modern2 Blog is dedicated to bringing people modern sustainable designs on just about every level. They were kind enough to reach out and post an article on their online blog about us.

We officially have a Facebook page! Petrified Design. If you have some free time head over to our page, check it out, give it a like and tell all your friends. On our facebook page we posted a few new custom designs via Mockingbird Domestics, they are great pieces that we are excited to introduce to our collection. Mockingbird has some of our designs along with many other local artisans in their online store. We are looking forward to their Austin store opening up in the Summer.

This year has been flying by… We have been spending a great amount of time designing and brainstorming ideas. We finally started constructing our new designs over the past couple of weeks, and are excited to bring them to the surface. We have four new designs in our Etsy store and should have a few more over the next week or two. 

Over the past couple of months we have been teaming up with CultivatePR, a local Austin PR company devoted to promoting and marketing uniquely crafted businesses. Together we have been working on a press release and launch party. A date had yet to be confirmed, but it will be in the near future. They are great people and have been a pleasure to work with. We look forward to releasing more information about the launch party.

We had the privilege to meet with Jeff and Laura Daly of Mockingbird Domestics last week. They are opening a store in April where they will be selling local, hand-crafted items. We look forward to working with them, and will soon have more information on an opening date for Mockingbird.

Petrified Design was really feeling the love this week! Our work was featured on three design blogs; Sweet Peach, a collection of designs with Southern charm and style; dwellinggawker, the home design aspect of the gawkerverse that is constantly updated and features modern and artful design; and Vouch Mag, a daily online editorial bringing it’s readers the newest in fashion, art, culture and design. We were among pretty great company to say the least, and couldn’t be happier that our designs are being enjoyed by others.

While we were picking up our last set of barrels for our Cask Rocker we were asked to be a part of this year’s wine festival at Flat Creek Winery. We found it fitting to sell our rockers at the winery the barrels came from.

The festival will take place this Friday and Saturday at Flat Creek Winery from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Come enjoy a glass of wine and explore the handcrafted work from local artisans. All of the artisans have donated items to a silent auction benefiting “A World for Childern”. We look forward to meeting new people and have a glass of wine over good conversation.
